Eminem is riding high off the success of his new album Marshall Mathers LP 2. Even though official numbers don’t come in until tomorrow, he is projected to sell anywhere from 700,000 and 750,000 copies in a week. That’s not enough; he’s become the first solo artist to do something special on the Billboard Charts since the Beatles did in 1964.
According to Rolling Stone Eminem scored his first number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart with “Monster,” and he became the first artist since the Beatles in 1964 to place at least four songs in the top 20 of the Hot 100 as a lead artist.
Currently the Billboard charts are dominated by Lorde’s “Royals.” The four Eminem singles on the charts are “Monster” featuring Rihanna, “Berzerk”, “Survival” and “Rap God,” which are placed at three, fifteen, sixteen and seventeen respectively. It’s odd that “Monster” was his first number on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts because he has had numerous Hot 100 number ones in his career with “Lose Yourself” and “Love The Way You Lie” with Rihanna.
According to , when the Beatles held this title in 1964, they had six singles on the Top 20 chart for two weeks.
From Hip Hop DX, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “Please Please Me,” and “I Saw Her Standing There,” were on the first week and on the second week, “Do You Want To Know A Secret,” replaced “I Saw Her Standing There.”
This is a great achievement for Eminem considering what the Beatles did and it will be interesting to see how many albums he managed to sell in a week.
