Fans waiting to see the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey will be waiting even longer than originally thought. Universal Pictures just announced that Fifty Shades of Grey will be released on Valentine’s Day, 2015.
Entertainment Weekly reported that this announcement comes after the studio decided to push the start of production in order for the new leading man, Jamie Dornan, to have enough prep time before production starts.
Jamie Dornan will be playing leading man Christian Grey, Charlie Hunnam was originally set to play Grey but backed out.
Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley explained that after further research and talks with the marketing department, moving Fifty Shades of Grey to February will make this the centerpiece of the month. Langely expressed that this movie will be a global event.
With the film coming out on Valentine’s Day weekend, beginning on Friday, February 13, this will also coincide with the President’s Day holiday, this will provide the film with a chance to have a strong three day box office debut.
The Atlantic Wire added that 2015 is already packed with upcoming releases such as, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, Fantastic Four and the final installment of The Hunger Games.
