As most of us parents know, brushing a toddlers teeth can be well, like pulling teeth. Sometimes it just takes a gimmick or something fun to get them motivated and on board. The Firefly Kids, Ready, Go, Brush light up toothbrush is a great option for kids who need some extra motivation and coaching while brushing.

The base of the toothbrush has three colored "traffic lights" that flash as you use the brush. The flashing green light will continue for 30 seconds, at which point it turns to yellow, meaning halfway done, and then finally the red light flashes after 60 seconds. You then repeat for the second row of teeth.

The concept is great. The brush tells you when to stop and start so mom and dad don't need to keep nagging and the novelty of the flashing lights will get most kids at least interested in the brush. Practically speaking, the lights are right where the hand goes, so I am not sure how effective they are once you start brushing. But my three-year-old was still pretty excited by her new brush and even if she can't see the lights, I can, so I can tell her to switch sides or that we are done.

I think that the brush is designed to encourage kids to keep brushing for a full two minutes. We, however, have the opposite problem in our house, my daughter would keep brushing (i.e.,chewing on her toothbrush) all night if I didn't remind her to STOP! So this is actually pretty handy because now I can say - "look - the lights are off - all done!"
