Pasco Middle School in San Antonio, Fla. is under review for a new honor roll system after it awarded Douglas Tillack honor roll status despite a C and a D on his report card.

His mother, Beth Tillack, was outraged by the deprecating standards of the public school system. After receiving her son's report card, she was appalled by the positive reinforcement written on the report. Yahoo News quotes Tillack's response: "It was glaring, the fact that it said, 'Good job,' and there was a D ... it doesn't make any sense."

Tillack recently revoked Douglas' privileges in response to poor grades, and was shocked when he told his mother that he was indeed an honor roll student.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that superintendent Kurt Browning will respond to Pasco County's grading disparity. Browning will reevaluate the honor roll's requirements and possibly base the award on As and Bs for each quarter of the school year.

Although it is imperative to encourage students to excel in academia, our national standards cannot be lowered to accommodate for students lagging behind. Instead, supplementary implements must be enacted to assist those struggling to reach their ultimate potential.
