Former Ray Donovan executive producer Bryan Zuriff has been sentenced to six months in home confinement after being found guilty of illegal internet gambling.
According to Variety, Zuriff also will be on two years of probation. The former exec producer also has to complete 300 hours of community service. He pleaded guilty back in July and agreed to pay $500,000 as part of the plea deal he made.
Zuriff was busted as part of an FBI investigation into illegal internet gambling. His defense attorneys had argued that Zuriff didn't know that the gambling ring was allegedly linked to Russian-American organized crime and that he should only receive probation.
Attorney Charles Clayman said of the sentencing, "We were pleased with the sentence. From the beginning we had made it clear that Mr. Zuriff was not involved with organized crime or an international gambling ring. He is now prepared to continue his life as a producer of excellent TV shows and movies."
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Zuriff was one of 34 people indicted as part of the gambling ring. He was the first to plead guilty.
The producer claimed that he was addicted to gambling and had been in therapy for seven months and the arrest was a "silver lining." His attorney's had argued that any jail time would only hurt his attempts at getting over his addiction.
