The tech giant finally revealed for what exactly the floating barge sitting in the San Francisco Bay will be after people were left wondering when it first appeared in October.
USA Today reports that Google is building the barge to show off new tech in an interactive space.
"Google Barge ... A floating data center? A wild party boat? A barge housing the last remaining dinosaur? Sadly, none of the above," Google said in a statement. "Although it's still early days and things may change, we're exploring using the barge as an interactive space where people can learn about new technology."
When the barge first appeared in the Bay and another near Portland, Maine, the U.S. Coast Guard went and visited them to see what was up. People thought the barges might be floating data centers.
A source told KPIX 5 that there are three floors to be used as "dazzling showrooms" and the top deck of the barge can be used as a "party deck."
The barge is made up of several 40 foot long shipping containers, making the barge easier to disassemble and change if necessary. The construction has been delayed because the Coast Guard is classifying it as a "floating vessel" and will need to be outfitted with certain safety features.
