Alfonso Cuarón's epic sci-fi film Gravity starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney has smashed October box office records. The film, reportedly made for $100M, has just exceeded the $400M mark, making it the highest grossing live-action film released in October.
According to The Guardian the last film to hold the record was Taken 2 back in 2012, which held the record at an impressive $376M worldwide. But both are still behind an animated feature with holds the all time record of $555M worldwide. That title holder is Dreamworks' Puss 'N Boots.
Gravity has grossed $219M in North America online, and has brought in another $207M in overseas sales, pushing it to be the highest grossing live action film in October. The film received a hefty chunk of its money from the older demographic, which came as a surprise as the film was geared towards a younger audience. The film is on a highly successful run and will be a sure fire contender for best picture this awards season.
