A welsh activist, who was detained in Russia, has been released.

Anthony Perrett was detained in Russia for two months after being arrested by Russian authorities, due to him, along with six others, protesting at an Artic offshore drilling rig, reported BBC News .

Perrett, a tree surgeon, is a Greenpeace activist who deeply supports the use of renewable energy. He went to the Artic offshore drilling rig to protest the pollution and the destruction of the environment.

As a result he was arrested and charged with hooliganism. He was granted bail yesterday reported Wales Online .

Perrett was not the only one arrested, 28 other activists and two reporters were also arrested and many of them are getting bail as well.

The Greenpeace movement launched a worldwide campaign to get them freed. Perrett is on bail, but still faces the charge against him. The 32-year-old is in an undisclosed location in St. Petersburg with Greenpeace officials.

The Greenpeace International Arctic campaigner Ben Ayliffe is happy for Anthony and the other activists that received bail, “This is a wonderful moment for Anthony and his family and friends. But this will only really be over when he and the others are able to go home.”

Unfortunately, an Australian activist by the name of Colin Russell was denied bail earlier this week.
