When it comes to the issue of legalizing same-sex marriages Hawaii is more liberal than many other states in America.

Reuters reported that the states House of Representatives approved a bill legalizing same-sex marriage.

The state will be among other states that have legalized same-sex marriage such as Maryland, Maine, the capital, Washington, D.C., and more.

Lawmakers held a debate over the issue in October according to Daily News.

Despite split views on whether same-sex marriages should be legalized in the state, support won out over opposition.

Hawaii’s Gov. Neil Abercrombie had expressed support for same-sex marriages before the bill was approved and acknowledge that he would sign it when the bill landed on his desk.

In previous years, the Hawaiian Supreme Court ruled that banning same sex marriages was discriminatory, but faced backlash that prevented such ruling to become reality.

The bill was passed in the house with a 30-19 vote. The bill will go into effect on Dec. 2 of this year.
