The Kellan Lutz-led Hercules: The Legend Begins has been picked up by Summit Entertainment from Millennium Films for U.S. distribution.

Lutz stars in the movie directed by Die Hard 2's Renny Harlin, TheWrap reports.

The Legend Begins is the first of two movies in production based upon Hercules. The other film, simply Hercules, is directed by Brett Ratner and stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

According to Deadline, the movie follows Hercules as he is sold into slavery. The mythical Greek figure must gain his freedom so that he can save his love, the Princess of Crete, Hebe (played by Gaia Weiss).

Hercules: The Legend Begins will be out in theaters Feb. 7, 2014. The release date pits Hercules against George Clooney in The Monuments Men and Warner Bros. The Lego Movie.

Millennium Films' Hercules also stars Scott Adkins, Liam Garrigan, Liam McIntyre, Johnathon Schaech, Rade Serbedzija and Roxanne McKee.

Lutz has appeared in such films as all five of the Twilight films and can be seen in the upcoming Expendables 3.
