Good news for James McAvoy fans. The X-Men: First Class actor’s latest U.K. hit Filth has finally earned a North American distributor. Magnolia Pictures has agreed to release the cop drama next year.
The film was a big success in the U.K. and is the second-highest grossing film with the U.K.’s equivalent of an R rating. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McAvoy also snagged a nomination for Best Actor at the British Independent Film Award. Costars Shirley Henderson and Eddie Marsan were nominated for their supporting roles and Jon S. Baird was nominated for best director. The film itself was nominated for best production.
Other members of the cast include Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots and Jim Broadbent.
According to Variety, McAvoy stars as an unstable police sergeant who indulges in drugs, alcohol and relationships. This all comes to a head while trying to solve the murder of a Japanese student. It is based on the novel by Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting).
Magnolia is hoping to release the film in the U.S. early next year.
Meanwhile, another film McAvoy appears in, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, is slated for release in 2014 from The Weinstein Company, Variety reported last week.
He will also be seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens on May 23. So, get ready for a lot more McAvoy at the theater.
