Mexican-American superstar Dolores Janney Rivera, better known as Jenni Rivera was killed in a plane crash last December, which also took 6 other lives. A wrongful-death suit has been filed by the families of the passengers and in a fight with the plane company, the trial will stay in California.
According to the Billboard Judge Holly Kendig rejected a motion by Starwood Management Inc., the Learjet company, calling for the case to be dismissed in California and moved to Mexico. The lawyer for Starwood, Mark Valesquez, argued because the records and investigation are going on in Mexico. The plaintiff’s attorneys, Paul Kiesel, wanted to keep the trial in the U.S. plane was registered in the U.S.
The The Hollywood Reporter noted the National Transportation Safety Board were having the plane's wreckage examined in the U.S. and assisting Mexican authorities.
Rivera was 43 when she died, and was at the height of her career. She was known as the "Diva de la Banda" and had sold over 15 million albums during her career. She had recently moved into acting and starred and produced her own reality TV show Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C.
