Justin Bieber reportedly owes the German government $11,000 in fines for leaving his pet monkey, Mally, in the country during his “Believe” tour earlier this year.
In March, German officials took Bieber’s monkey after he tried to bring it into the country without the proper paperwork. Bieber never made the arrangements to pick up Mally, who is now the property of the German government.
Mally is now living at a German zoo, and Bieber is in debt for almost $11,000 in fines for the capuchin monkey’s care, according to The Huffington Post.
According to CeleBuzz, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation has tried to contact Bieber about paying the fine multiple times, to no avail.
“As Mr. Bieber should be informed about his payment obligations by now, we hope that he takes his responsibility and settles the costs he has caused to the public, jus like anybody else would have to do,” says Ellen Frederichs, an attorney for the agency.
Although the $11,000 fine should be no trouble for the rich pop star, if he doesn’t pay it soon, he may find himself in some hot water.
“If Mr. Bieber will not settle his costs, the payment might have to be enforced when he will enter Germany again,” says Frederichs.
