Justin Bieber is going in a different direction with his latest single, “Heartbreak.” Bieber has started to mature his sound and move towards a less teen pop driven feel. Bieber does not push himself vocally at all on this track, staying in the same tone and style throughout the song.

“Heartbreak,” has a tone very similar to the early days of Usher’s “U Got It Bad” and “You Make Me Wanna…” “HeartBreak,” tries to combine some slow hip-hop influences into the pop song. Usher discovered Bieber and launched him into the music industry, so it makes sense that Bieber would pull influences from his mentor. “Heartbreak” could have benefited from more hip-hop influences.

It seems that Bieber is unsure which direction his music should take moving forward. Creativity and style wise it seems that Bieber is trying to move towards a more mature sound but not alienate his millions of preteen fans that helped him to reach a level of superstardom that is not often accomplished.

“Heartbreaker” is not as memorable as songs like, “Boyfriend” and “As Long As You Love Me,” but Bieber fans will be sure to show their support for any single the pop star puts out.
