Actor Kevin Costner and producer Guillermo Del Toro have found a director for Midnight Delivery, a thriller set up at Universal. British television director Otto Bathurst has been hired.
Costner, who recently appeared in Man of Steel, will star in the film about a father trying to save with his daughter from a Colombian gang, reports The Hollywood Reporter. In order to do so, Costner’s character has to take cocaine to London to make a midnight delivery.
The script was penned by Neil Cross, the co-creator of the acclaimed British series Luther, and is based on an idea from Del Toro. The Pacific Rim director is producing with David Linde.
Although this will be Bathurst’s first feature film directing effort, Variety notes that he has years of experience directing British television. His best known credit is the 2011 Channel 4 series Black Mirror and recently directed the BBC’s Peaky-Blinders. He won a BAFTA for the BBC’s Criminal Justice.
Costner won awards for his starring role on last year’s History Channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. The two-time Oscar winner has several projects in the works, including Paramount’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, which opens in January. He’s also working with director McG and Hailee Steinfeld on Three Days To Kill.
