Lady Gaga and her longtime manager, Troy Carter are no longer going to making music and money together. It was announced that Carter has left Gaga and the duo split over creative differences. Carter has been Gaga’s manager since 2007. Carter became Gaga’s manager before her first hit, “Just Dance,” became an overnight sensation. Neither camp has confirmed the split.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that this news comes only hours after Gaga delivered an emotional performance of her new single, “Dope,” during the YouTube Awards. There had been much speculation around what had Gaga so upset during the awards.
Carter and Gaga had a unique working relationship, which included Gaga focusing on the creative aspects of her career and Carter focusing on the business side. USA Today reported that since Carter and Gaga have worked together, Gaga has sold over 20 million albums worldwide.
Gaga is known for her over the top creative vision and passion behind her music, but Carter was the driving force behind the business that became Gaga. No word yet on who Gaga will pick to replace Carter as her manager.
Gaga’s latest musical masterpiece, ARTPOP is set to come out on Nov. 11. Listen to her latest single, “Dope” here.
