Music legend Lou Reed passed away on October 27, 2013 at the age of 71. At the time of his death, he had no children, so his wife and his sister will split his vast estate.
According to Billboard, the musician’s will was filed in court on Monday. The will, apparently gives three-quarters of his estate to his wife. This share includes at least two homes and, presumably, a large sum of money. The remaining quarter of the estate will go to his sister. The sister’s share includes $500,000. This money is said to be set aside for the care of their mother. It was widely reported that Reed received a liver transplant earlier this year, and it is believed that he died as a result of complications from this transplant.
Reed became famous as the lead singer of the band The Velvet Underground. There was an outpouring of grief on social media from the music world when news of his passing was announced.
