For reality TV mogul Mark Burnett, The Bible isn’t just the best-selling book in the history of the world. It’s more like a franchise. The man behind The Voice has been looking for new ways to bring his Bible miniseries to audiences and the newest way is a 16-city tour with top Christian artists.
On Feb. 28, 20th Century Fox will release a 135-minute theatrical cut called Son of God that focuses on just the section of the miniseries about Jesus Christ. Less than a month later, The Bible Tour Experience kicks off on March 20.
According to the Associated Press, the performances will have several top Christian music artists, singing songs inspired by the series.
"I think that music just has such a wonderful ability to connect and open your heart and the images from our film certainly are going to touch your heart,” actress Rebecca Downey, Burnett’s wife and co-producer on the project, told the AP. “So I think it's just going to be a really beautiful, heartfelt experience all around for people to attend.”
The tour’s site shows that the artists who have signed on are Sidewalk Prophets, Jason Gray, Meredith Andrews, Natalie Grant, Chris August and Francesca Battistelli.
The original 10-hour series averaged 11 million viewers when it aired on The History Channel earlier this year. NBC has snagged the rights to the sequel, currently titled A.D.: Beyond The Bible. NBC is the home of The Voice and Celebrity Apprentice, shows both produced by Burnett. He also produces CBS’ Survivor.
The music tour kicks off in Lake Forest, Calif. and ends on April 13 in Baltimore.
