Miley Cyrus, one of the most recent child star turned rock star, has been one for controversy recently.
Cyrus’ newest stunt consisted of smoking what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette onstage, which she had taken out of her purse, immediately after accepting an award at the European Music Awards in Amsterdam yesterday.
“I couldn’t fit this award in my bag, but I did find this. So, thank you guys very much,” Cyrus said at the award show, according to NBCnews.
Amsterdam is internationally known for its open policy on marijuana use.
However, back in the U.S., where marijuana use is still a bit taboo, MTV has, according to Deadline, removed all mention of Cyrus’ actions from their airing of the EMAs on American MTV.
Though Cyrus’ previous scandalous stunts, such as her twerky performance during the American MTV Awards, were aired without caution, MTV has taken the safe route when it came to this headline, which they were praised for by the Parent Television Council.
Though their website’s story on the matter would appear otherwise, MTV has not confirmed whether Cyrus was, in fact, smoking cannabis.
Cyrus appeared at the European Music Award show to accept an award for Best Music Video for her hit song, “Wrecking Ball.”
