Many did not know the rock ‘n’ roll band, Mona, before they released their cover of Rihanna’s “Stay.” This cover changed the personal, soulful ballad into a hard rock driven song.

The music video cover is a part of the VEVO’s new original series, Nissan Tracks.

The rock ‘n’ roll cover quickly gained over 100,000 hits on YouTube and has launched Mona into the music spotlight. It is surprising to hear Rihanna’s lyrics being taken on in this hard rock style but the crossover works well. The cover keeps the passion behind "Stay" and the instrumental change shows that music should always be experimented with because the results will be unexpected and interesting.

Hearing the lyrics from a male voice also adds another level of complexity. When Rihanna was performing the song it was intimate and vulnerable. The lyrics being performed by a male have a stronger, more aggressive feel.

Mona is originally from Dayton, Ohio and formed back in early 2007.

Mona’s album, Torches & Pitchforks is currently available on iTunes.
