Natalie Portman will next be seen on the big screen in Jane Got A Gun, the Western she co-produced that earned plenty of publicity when original director Lynne Ramsay left the production. The film is being released by Relativity and The Weinstein Company, which have scheduled the film’s release for August 2014.

The distributors said Monday that Jane Got A Gun will be out on Aug. 29, 2014, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Jane Got A Gun was in the headlines earlier this year when Ramsay didn’t show up on the first day of production and dropped out after disagreements with producer/financier Scott Seindorff. Then, Portman’s leading men kept dropping out. First, Michael Fassbender left, then Jude Law and Bradley Cooper. Eventually, her Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor signed on and he stayed on the film. Joel Edgerton also stars.

Gavin O’Connor, who directed Edgerton in Warrior, stepped in to helm the project and production ran smoothly. The plot centers on a frontier woman (Portman) who hopes to start a life with her husband (Noah Emmerich), but then he gets in trouble with a gang (lead by McGregor). The only person that can help her is her former fiance (Edgerton).

Last month, the dispute with Ramsay was back in the news, as the producers filed a lawsuit against her, claiming that she never did the script work she was hired to do and that she showed erratic behavior while working on the film.

According to Deadline, Jane will have to face Universal’s The Loft and Lionsgate’s Jessabelle at the box office that weekend.
