In Bridgewater, New Jersey, Dayna Morales was denied a tip at the Gallop Asian Bistro- where Morales works as a waitress. The reason: because she is openly gay.
Morales has been working in the restaurant business intermittently for ten years. This is the first time that she has had to suffer the bigotry of customers in a defamatory manner so outrageous as this:
ABC News reports that Morales' shift began as any other, "Normal introduction. 'My name is Dayna. I'll be taking care of you.' Right away the mom looked at me and said, 'I thought you were going to say your name was Dan.'"
Despite the brazenly bold, and immensely ill-mannered, commentary Morales served the family of four with her usual poise and grace. However, when the family paid the bill of $93.55 they did not leave a tip, but a condescending note, deprecating Morales' implied sexual preference. As seen on The Huffington Post: "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I don't agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life."
Morales has not taken her offenders lightly; she has amassed a following on Facebook sharing her story with blogs and special interest groups.
The family has not made any public statements regarding the incident. Morales commented that she would not bother interacting with them again, because she does not respond to ignorance.
