North Carolina A&T State University was put on a short lockdown after one man was injured in a shooting on campus on Saturday.
21-year-old Divine Eatman was shot when at least one suspect reportedly started firing rounds in the grassy area in front of the campus’s McCain Hall Saturday night. Although Eatman was at a distance from the gunmen, he was hit by one of the rounds.
Eatman’s injuries are serious but non-life threatening, reports the Associated Press. He was brought to the nearby Moses Cone Hospital for treatment.
It is not clear if the gunmen were targeting Eatman, or just how far away from the shooters he was when he was hit.
The campus went on lockdown following the shooting, according to CNN, but the lockdown was lifted only an hour later. Police did, however, tell students on the campus to remain inside and stay safe for the remainder of the night.
The school sent out a tweet saying that university police “will be visible and on high alert throughout the evening.”
The shooting was reported at about 10 p.m. local time Saturday night after a day of homecoming festivities for the school. Several suspects were seen leaving the area in which the shooting took place.
The AP reports that police have said that they are currently searching for four suspects, but there have been no arrests made so far.
