Television, film, and theater actor Tony Musante passed away in New York City on Tuesday at age 77.
According to People, Musante died from complications following surgery.
The actor recently played mafia boss, Nino Schibetta, on HBO's Oz.
Musante starred in the cop drama, Toma, which ran for one season and ended in 1974. He also acted alongside Martin Sheen in the 1967 film, The Incident, and “The Last Run” in 1971 on Broadway with Meryl Streep.
In 1976, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in an episode of the NBC drama series, Medical Story.
His wife, Jane, told The New York Times that the cause of his death was a hemorrhage, which occurred while he was recovering from oral surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Musante is survived by two sisters, Cecelia Sisti and Katherine Walker, and a brother, Thomas.
