The movie 12 Years a slave by Steve McQueen is currently playing in select theaters and already being looked at as an Oscar winner.
However, Paramount Pictures is upset that it has nothing to do with the ground breaking film reported Ace Showbiz.
The major film producer feels that Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, did not offer them the chance to finance and distribute the film by McQueen.
The movie starring Chiwetel Ejiofor is a true story based on the memoir of Solomon Northup, a free man captured and forced into slavery, while doing everything he can to reach freedom again.
The Hollywood reporter first reported the incident due to insider information.
The contract between Paramount and Plan B is that Plan B offers Paramount the option to finance and distribute the movies that are in works. However, there had been tension between the two over the movie World War Z. Although the movie grossed in a good amount of money, it did not bring in the money the studio distribution expected.
Paramount chairman Brad Gray felt that he was misled by Plan B about the project, but refused to make a comment.
Whether this is really a breach of contract and whether Paramount Pictures will sue has not been reported by any news outlet. However, if 12 years a slave was not grossing in over $960K according to Deadline on Oct. 20, would Paramount have even cared?
