Pixar's delay of The Good Dinosaur has cost 5 percent of the animation studio's staff their jobs.
A Pixar Animation Studios' spokesperson confirmed the layoffs, the Los Angeles Times first reported. The Good Dinosaur was pushed back from its May 2014 release date to November 2015.
A Pixar representative said of the layoffs, "At Pixar, we are constantly re-evaluating the creative and business needs of our studio." The rep continued, "With the release date change of 'The Good Dinosaur,' we have realigned our production and support priorities, which includes a small reduction in our staffing levels."
The news follows only a little more than a month after the animation studio shuttered Pixar Canada, which left 100 people without a job. Pixar had decided to keep all operations "under one roof."
Pixar Canada opened only three years ago as Vancouver often provided incentives to movie studios willing to work there, but had recently began to pull back on those popular incentives.
"The team at Pixar Canada is incredibly talented and we are so proud of the excellent work we have produced there," a spokesperson said at the time. Pixar Canada hadn't produced much yet, only several shorts, including Small Fry and Air Mater.
With the delay of The Good Dinosaur due to the directorial change, Pixar will not have a film released in 2014.
