Tony Rohr, a former Pizza Hut manager in Elhart, Ind. was says that he was fired for refusing to make his employees work on Thanksgiving.
Rohr, who has worked with Pizza Hut for 10 years, didn't want his employees to have to come in to work during the holiday, The Huffington Post reports.
He spoke with local WSBT 22 news station saying, "I said why can't we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees and they can have the day off."
Rohr continued, "Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they're closed in the whole year and they're the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off to spend with their families."
According to CNBC, his current location was the first to ever try and get employees to work on Thanksgiving, Rohr said. "They just said it was a competitive decision and that everyone was open, so we will be too."
Pizza Hut wrote a statement on the company Facebook page where it explained that each franchise location was open to choosing whether to be open or not. The post said that Pizza Hut was sad the situation couldn't have been avoided and that "the vast majority of Pizza Huts in America are closed on Thanksgiving."
