A group of people that protested outside of Wal-Mart in LA for higher wages, better benefits, and a right to speak up without fear were arrested.

According to CNN those who refused to leave after their permit expired around 6 p.m. was arrested.

The retail giant has been in the news for the mistreatment of its employees and not paying their employees higher wages.

During a recent protest in Paramount, Cali., The La Times reported that 54 protesters were arrested.

This is not the first time Wal-Mart has been protested this year alone. In early September, USA Today reported that three people were arrested in protest against the retail store that extended to 15 counties.

OUR Walmart, was the union-backed group behind the protest in September and the recent protest. The theme for both protests is the demand for higher wages and inability for Wal-Mart employees to live off of what they are being paid.

While Wal-Mart knows about the arrest of their employees, they don’t seem to be bothered. They believe there are few associates participating and there is a reason for it.

“The reason why so few Wal-Mart associates are participating is because they know the opportunity that exists to move up the ladder quickly,” said spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan.

Despite what Buchanan says there is clearly a level of discontentment among Wal-Mart employees which are sparking these protests and walk-outs.
