Although director Quentin Tarantino is taking a year off from the awards circuit, the acclaimed director was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night to promote a comic book version of Django Unchained. However, he did reveal a little information on his future project.
Tarantino, who was also on The Tonight Show to make Leno’s last year, said that his next film will be a Western, but he’s not making a sequel to the Oscar-winning Django.
“I had so much fun doing Django and I love westerns so much,” he told Leno, reports Entertainment Weekly. “After I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘Woo, okay, now let me make another one. Now I know what I’m doing.”
However, Tarantino didn’t say anything about the new film’s plot. MTV News notes that he has been linked to several other Western-style projects in the past, including one about abolitionist John Brown. Other rumors include a Western in Australia and Forty Lashes Less One, an adaptation of an Elmore Leonard story. Leonard died in August and one of his novels inspired Jackie Brown.
There have also been other rumored Tarantino projects in the past. Last December, he said he’s like to do a movie about African American soldiers during World War II. He also mentioned that he’d love to make a movie with Johnny Depp.
Tarantino recently worked with DC Comics’ Vertigo to create a comic book version of Django that incorporates unused elements from his Oscar-winning screenplay. The artwork was done by R.M. Guera, Jason Latour, Denys Cowan, Danijel Zezelij, and Jim Lee.
