Robert Pattinson’s roles in Hollywood have not slowed since Twilight ended and he has found another one. The actor will reportedly star in The Lost City of Z, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch.
TheWrap first confirmed Pattinson’s casting in the long-gestating project, which was to star Brad Pitt at one point. Pattinson’s role in it is still unknown.
Cumberbatch was first linked to the project in September, when it was reported that he was in talks to replace Pitt in the lead role. The Star Trek Into Darkness actor will play Percy Fawcett, a British man who gets lost in 1920s Brazil, searching for a lost city he thought he discovered in the past. It is based on the acclaimed book by David Grann.
Pitt was supposed to take the starring role, but he is now going to stay in a producing role. His Plan B banner is producing with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Anthony Katagas. Plan B also produced 12 Years A Slave, which featured Cumberbatch and Pitt in supporting roles.
Panorama Media is financing the project.
James Gray, the acclaimed writer/director of We Own The Night and the upcoming The Immigrant, is directing. He’s the latest noteworthy director to work with Pattinson, who has made films with David Cronenberg and will next work with Werner Herzog and Anton Corbijn. He’ll next be seen in David Michod’s The Rover.
