Shia LaBeouf dropped acid to prepare for his role in Charlie Countryman, but should have been doing ecstasy.

Director Fredrik Bond talked to Vulture and said that LaBeouf took the wrong drug, but did actually drop acid.

"In the script, it's Carpathian ecstasy in the script," Bond said. Bond also said that he was unaware the actor planned on taking drugs for the role. "No, he informed me that he was going to go out on a limb and push the envelope. He said he wants to make this like they did in the seventies; he was like, 'I want it to be like there's a gun against my head."

According to USA Today, LaBeouf seems to be willing to go all out for a role. The actor has made it known he would have had real sex for Lars von Trier's upcoming film Nymphomania.

The Evens Stevens actor even told the site last summer, "There's a way to do an acid trip like Harold & Kumar, and there's a way to be on acid. What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that chair in Dead Man Walking. These are the guys I look up to."

Charlie Countryman is out in theaters Friday, and currently sits at a 32 percent on RottenTomatoes, though LaBeouf gets positive marks.
