The popular coffee chain Starbucks will have to pay Kraft $2.7 billion for terminating its contract with the snack company.

According to The New York Times .

Starbucks stated that they did not feel that Kraft held up their end of the contract.

The lawsuit began in 2010, when Starbucks decided to no longer produce the K cup size coffee that only went with the coffee machine created by Kraft reported Bloomberg at the time.

The lawsuit has now come to a close with the arbitrator ruling in favor of the snack company. Starbucks has to pay $2.2 3billion in damages and $557 million in additional fees to Kraft.

The owner of Kraft at the time the contract fight began Mondelez is glad that the lawsuit is over. “We’re glad to put this issue behind us. We can now fully focus on growing our global snacks business,” said Gerd Pleuhs, general counsel of Mondelez.

The coffee maker is also happy to have the lawsuit over with, but they do not agree with the ruling.

“We are pleased the arbitration has ended; however, we strongly disagree with the arbitrator’s conclusion… We believe Kraft did not deliver on its responsibilities to our brand under the agreement,” said Troy Alstead, chief financial officer and group president, in a press release according to Stockhouse.
