The CW has given full season orders to its three new freshman dramas, The Originals, The Tomorrow People, and Reign.
The Originals is a spin-off of the CW’s other popular drama, The Vampire Diaries, now in its fifth season. The show centers on the Mikaelson siblings, Rebekah (Claire Holt), Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) as they try to regain their control of New Orleans. The drama has drawn about 2 million viewers per episode since its debut, TV Guide reports.
The Tomorrow People focuses on a group of teenagers with superhuman abilities. The new series had a lot of hype, and, although it premiered strong, it has fell in viewers in its later episodes. Still, with about 1.6 million viewers per episode, it remained popular enough to earn a renewal.
Reign shows the adventures of a teenage Mary, Queen of Scots, played by Australian actress Adelaide Kane. The series has been steady in viewership, with about 1.7 million viewers per episode.
“In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule,” said Mark Pedowitz, President of the CW.
“We’re excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season. With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we’ll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.”
