Embattled Toronto mayor Rob Ford has now lost most of his powers as the mayor of Canada’s largest city amid his ongoing list of scandals.

The vote came after a wild week surrounding the mayor, beginning with his admission that he has used crack cocaine, although he insisted that he is not addicted. He apologized, insisting that he had done it once in a “drunken stupor.” Then, the Toronto Star uncovered a video in which goes on a violent, expletive-laced rant about murder.

But that just turned out to be the beginning. This week, he also admitted to buying illegal drugs, but said he woulnd’t resign. Yesterday, he denied that he had oral sex with a staffer and shocked reporters when he told them, “I'm happily married, I've got more than enough to eat at home.”

Today, the Toronto City Council voted on what to do with Ford and they decided to strip him of most of his powers. According to CBC, they voted 39-3 to take away his powers to appoint the deputy mayor and executive committee. On Monday, there will be another vote, in which they could decide to cut his office budget to the level of a city councilor.

“Obviously, I can’t support this,” Ford said before the vote, reports The Toronto Sun. “I completely understand where they are coming from.”

Ford continued, “I don’t want to waste taxpayers’ money, I’ll be paying for it myself but this cost taxpayers thousands of dollars. This will hurt the taxpayers at the end of the day.”

The votes mean that Ford’s power will be limited for his remaining 11 months in office.
