Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford spoke with CNN and Fox News this weekend, following a city council vote to remove some of his political power. The city council will meet again to vote on stripping him of even more powers, which would make him essentially a figurehead.
Ford spoke with CNN’s Bob Weir in Toronto, again stating that he is not a drug addict, despite his admission that he did use crack cocaine and admitting that he bought illegal drugs. “I don't look at myself as the mayor. I look at myself as just a normal, regular person,” Ford told Weir.
“I know a lot of people who would party their brains out, but they’re parents. I’m sure you’re insulating your children from what’s going on,” Weir told Ford, reports The Toronto Star.
“Absolutely, I’m the best father around,” Ford replied.
A portion of the interview aired this morning on New Day. The rest of it will air during Anderson Cooper 360 tonight.
According to THR, Ford also spoke with Fox News on Sunday, speaking with John Roberts. He admitted to being addicted to alcohol, adding, “Have I had my outbursts in the past? Absolutely I have John. But you know what I’m only human. I’ve made mistakes I’ve apologized. That’s all I can do.”
Ford had some of his powers stripped last week, but The Globe and Mail notes that the city council is going to vote on stripping him of more powers. “If they want me out, they should just call a snap election and they’re talking about it, but do it,” Ford said during a radio interview Monday. “I’m willing to go to the polls right now.”
