The United States Navy has recently named its new aircraft carrier after former President Ford.

The USS Gerald R Ford is one of the U.S. military’s newest forces to be reckoned with. According to BBC, the ship is nuclear-powered, weighs over 110,000 tons, and cost $13 billion.

Though the ship’s cost is 22 percent over budget, according to The Washington Post, the project is estimated to save the Navy over $4 billion throughout the ship’s life.

The vessel is considered a super-carrier, created to be as efficient as possible; the USS Gerald R Ford is made with the goal of getting the highest amount of fighter planes into the sky as quickly as possible, and with the fewest number of crew possible.

“She is truly a technological marvel,” said Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert, writes The Washington Post.

This ship is thought to be the most advanced aircraft carrier ever created by U.S. military, and possibly in the world.

This aircraft carrier is one of ten, and is approximately 70 percent complete. The ship is due to be fully functional some time in 2016.
