Joe Wright, who is best known for directing lavish period films starring Keira Knightley, has been tapped by Warner Bros. to direct a new adaptation of Peter Pan to the big screen.

Wright is currently in talks to direct the feature, which is said to be an origin story centering on the famous character created by J. M. Barrie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Greg Berlanti, who is currently having success with The CW’s Arrow, is set to produce the project. Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift) wrote the script.

Variety notes that Warner Bros. is so impressed with Fuchs’ work that they want to get a director attached as soon as possible. He has also written Clock Without a Face for Paramount and Disney’s The Magic Catalogue.

Sarah Schechter is overseeing for the studio.

Peter Pan has been on the big screen plenty of times before, but the character is suddenly hot in Hollywood again. Sony is working on Channing Tatum and Joe Roth’s Pan, while Disney and director Gary Ross are developing Peter and the Starcatchers.

Wright is best known for his work with Knightley, including last year’s Anna Karenina. His few modern-set films include The Soloist and Hana.
