Two-time Oscar nominated writer David Magee has been hired by The C.S. Lewis Company and Mark David Co. to write the fourth Chronicles of Narnia film, based on The Silver Chair.
Although the Chronicles of Narnia franchise was left dormant after The Dawn Treader failed to do as well as hoped in 2010, Mark Gordon swooped in to revive the series in October.
Magee is best known for his Oscar nominated adapted screenplays for 2004’s Finding Neverland and 2012’s Life of Pi. In a joint statement, the C.S. Lewis Company and Gordon sounded excited to finally get the project off the ground with Magee writing.
“I have a great deal of respect for Mark Gordon’s work and am confident that together we can bring the beauty and magical delight that Narnia engenders in the hearts of those who read the books to the screen in The Silver Chair,” Douglas Gresham, C.S. Lewis’ stepson, said. “I am very much looking forward to diving once more into Narnia, this time with Mark Gordon and his team.”
Magee said that he is a big fan of the series and is excited to get to work. “All these years later, I'm getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it,” he said.
The previous Narnia films were produced by Walden Media, which worked with Disney on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (2005) and Prince Caspian (2008), then with Fox on The Dawn Treader. The films grossed $1.6 billion worldwide, although each were costly productions.
There is no target release date for The Silver Chair yet.
