Eva Casara, 17, was shot in the head on Christmas evening. The pregnant teen survived only long enough to deliver her baby who survived the attack.

Casara’s grandmother, Fannie Casara said, “She’s fighting for her little life,” according to the Sun-Times. “She weighs only about a pound and a half.”Casara was only 5 ½ months pregnant at the time of the shooting.

Casara was said to have left the home Wednesday afternoon with no mention of her plans. It is said she had planned to visit her mother but all phone calls when straight to voicemail. Family was informed of Casara’s whereabouts when police arrived at the grandmother’s house around 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

“They said they found her. They don’t know how long she had been laying there. They had shot her in the back of the head,” said her grandmother. She had apparently been robbed of all of her belongings and left shot in the back of the head.

The teen was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center according to the Chicago Tribune, where she went into cardiac arrest three times. The baby survived but is in the NICU for the time being. Casara was kept on a ventilator but went into cardiac arrest again and passed.

There are still no suspects in custody for the crime and the family has no idea who could’ve killed the pregnant teen. Video surveillance was taken from the location where the body was found and authorities are following all possible leads, even using social media to catch the criminals.
