The New York Film Critics Circle selected American Hustle as the best film of 2013, giving the film some positive buzz heading into awards' season.
According to The Associated Press, David O. Russell and Eric Singer were awarded best screenplay for the film and Jennifer Lawrence was given the award for best supporting actress.
American Hustle follows a pair of con men who are forced to partner up with FBI in the 1970s to bring down some politicians around New Jersey. The movie has garnered plenty of positive noise ahead of its release on Dec. 13.
Robert Redford was given the award for best actor for his role in All is Lost and Cate Blanchett was picked for best actress in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, Reuters reports.
While 12 Years A Slave lost out for best picture despite seeming to be the awards' season frontrunner, Steve McQueen did snag the award for best director. Jared Leto was awarded the best supporting actor prize for Dallas Buyers Club.
Other awards handed out were best foreign language film to Blue is the Warmest Color and best documentary went to Stories We Tell. Fruitvale Station was picked by the critics as best first film. Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rise won the best animated film prize. Lastly, Bruno Delbonnel was awarded best cinematography award for Inside Llewyn Davis.
