The race is on to see who will win the holiday box office. Anchorman 2 is on course to have a strong five day opening with $45 million in total box office sales.
The Will Ferrell sequel earned an estimated $8.7 million on Friday, which added to its two-day total of $12.2 million. The film opened on Wednesday. With additional numbers coming in, Anchorman 2 could take in roughly $45 million since it opened nationwide, The LA Times added.
The biggest competition for Anchorman 2 is the follow up to The Hobbit, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Smaug has already broken records, making over $300 million worldwide and crossing the $100 million mark domestically, Variety reported.
Both films will face competition with holiday films such as Walking With Dinosaurs, Saving Mr. Banks and Grudge Match all being released over the Christmas holiday break.
Disney is still enjoying success from their animated pictured, Frozen which has made over $177.5 million in the past five weeks.
