Apple’s Mac Pro is going on sale Thursday, right in time for a last minute gift for that special someone on your Christmas list.
The Mac Pro is a cylindrical tower, a much different look than previous Apple desktops, and is marked with a $3,000 price tag. The new Mac Pro has a 3.7 Ghz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, 12 GB of RAM, two FirePro D500 graphics processing units and 256 GB of flash storage.
Apple is also selling a $4,000 model with a different processor and more RAM and is allowing users can also opt for upgrades to the processors. Apple also offers the option to upgrade to 1TB of flash storage.
The computer’s power is its main selling point, and Apple is targeting professional and semi-professional music producers, videographers and photographers in their marketing presentations about the computer according to the LA Times. This is definitely not a device aimed at the regular home computer user.
According to the Washington Post, the computer will be available online, in Apple stores and at some other resellers starting Thursday but Apple has not guaranteed delivery by Christmas, so that’s always something to keep in mind when placing an order for this new piece of tech.
