After surprising fans with her album release, singer Beyoncé Knowles appears to retaliate against Target for their decision to not sell physical copies of her album.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that after Target and Amazon have decided not to sell physical copies of her album, the singer took to another retailer to shop and surprise fans.

Beyoncé shopped at Wal-Mart, Target's biggest competitor, and also handed out $50 Wal-Mart gift cards to 750 customers on Friday.

Target chose not to sell the album because they did not think her album release method was fair to their fans.

"...at Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," a Target representative said.

Beyoncé released her self-titled album on Dec. 13 on iTunes at midnight. It features 14 songs and 17 videos. She gave no warning or any hints that she was even working on a new project.

"Beyoncé decided several months ago to release her album in this way but she didn't decide on this date until very recently, just a little bit ago," a source told US Weekly.

However, physical CD's still account for more money then digital downloads with $13 billion in the US for physical copies compared with $10 billion for digital sales.

Beyoncé doesn't seem to be hurt by Target and Amazon's decisions, her album is currently No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
