If Friday's ticket sales are any indication, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Frozen remain a strong one-two punch atop the box office for another weekend, while new film Out of the Furnace saw miserable numbers.
Catching Fire earned another $7.7 million for Friday, while Frozen was right behind with $6.8 million, HitFix reports, bringing their domestic totals now to $317.3 million and $109.4 million, respectively.
Christian Bale and Casey Affleck's new movie Out of the Furnace seems dead on arrival, with the film only managing a weak $1.8 million for first day sales. Estimates suggest that the movie will have to work hard to just reach $6 million for the weekend. Out of the Furnace was relatively low-budget, so the studio shouldn't take a big hit if the movie doesn't draw many people.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the other two films in the top five for Friday sales were Thor: The Dark World with $1.2 million and Vince Vaughn's Delivery Man with $1.1 million.
HitFix notes that the Los Angeles and New York limited release of the Coen Brother's Inside Llewyn Davis did fairly well, earning $123,340 on just four screens. The movie will begin opening in more theaters across the U.S. next week.
