Britney Spears has influenced the younger generation of pop stars such as Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, but now the “Perfume” singer is acknowledging her own inspirations.
Among the artists she gets inspired by are Cyrus, Beyonce, Lorde, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake.
Before she launched her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood on Friday, Spears told USA Today of Cyrus, "She's cool, she's fun to be around. You know, she's got really good energy." She also said of Beyonce, "what she did with her (surprise release) album was genius, really brilliant."
As for newcomer Lorde, whose hit “Royals” has taken on a life of its own at the end of this year, Spears said in a generation that’s “hungry for new sounds” the British singer is “really different and cool.”
She gushed about Mars and Timberlake, too, saying they’re “fresh” and “inspiring” for her own music. However, the artist she admires the most was the late Michael Jackson, who she pays tribute to in her show.
It’s her "favorite part of the show, where it's just me in the spotlight (during Me Against the Music) with a hat on, which is really a tribute to Michael."
