Bruno Mars is gearing up for one of the biggest performances of his career so far – the 2014 Super Bowl halftime show. In an interview, Mars talked about being asked to perform and braving the cold in East Rutherford, N.J. when he takes the stage on Feb. 2.
Mars, 28, will be performing with his band at MetLife Stadium. He said in a phone interview this month that he’s been hearing a lot of chatter from those around him as he gears up for the show.
"Everyone's putting the fear of God in me like there's going to be a blizzard," he said, Billboard reports. "I know it's going to be cold and I just got to face it."
He joked he’s going to wear a “beekeeper suit” to stay warm, but also admitted he’s trying not to “hype myself up too much.”
It was confirmed back in September that Mars would be taking the stage during halftime of Superbowl XLVIII. He tweeted at the time, “WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!! #PepsiSBHalftime.”
In the new interview he talked about getting that phone call and being asked to perform. He said “whatever the NFl saw they dug.”
"What do you say? `Nah.' What do you say? `Absolutely. Let's rock,'" he said. "It was something exciting for me and my (band). It wasn't too long ago when we were performing in clubs and bars and pubs, and even when I put (my first) album out, (we were) opening acts for a bunch of different artists, living in a van and traveling around and kind of putting in the work and time. It might seem fast to the outsider looking in, but you know, it's just another thing we can celebrate and I feel like as a group we all achieved it together.”
