In unexpected news for the day, Bryan Singer seemingly announced the release date for the sequel to the not-yet released X-Men: Days of Future Past as dropping in 2016.

According to Collider, Singer tweeted a simple, but vague "#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!. This was followed shortly thereafter by a tweet from Exhibitor Relations, which further elaborated, "No stopping the X-Men franchise. Fox's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will drop May 27, 2016."

While there isn't any more information other than the two tweets, SlashFilm is speculating that based upon the title, the next movie will focus on the Age of Apocalypse timeline from the comics. That comic plot dealt with more time travel and an alternate timeline, in addition to an immortal villain, aptly named Apocalypse, hunting the X-Men down.

SlashFilm also suggests that using this storyline could be a way to tie Cyclops and Jean Grey back into the film series as they are shown regrouping with X-Men after everyone thought Grey was killed.

While it seems there is already a sequel to the First Class sequel, fans should still be excited for X-Men: Days of Future Past which hits theaters May 23, 2014.
