The New York Yankees have been very busy this offseason. Players have been coming and going in recent weeks. That trend continued as Carlos Beltran is returning to New York. Beltran agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal on Friday.The New York Daily New first reported the deal.
Beltran is the third player to join the Yankees in recent weeks. They had recently signed outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from the Boston Red Sox and catcher Brian McCann. This deal comes one day after Robinson Cano signed with the Seattle Mariners. Beltran had met with the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this week, and the Kansas City Royals were also interested in him, according to ESPN New York.
The Beltran deal could move some players around. Alfonso Soriano could be a full-time designated hitter, though he would like to be in the outfield, or the Yankees could have Brett Gardner as a trade chip for a pitcher or second baseman, according to the New York Daily News.
Beltran, who is an eight-time All-Star, played for the New York Mets from 2005 to 2011. The last two seasons he has played for the Cardinals and made it to the World Series for the first time in his career this year. He hit .296 with 24 homeruns and 84 RBIs with the Cardinals this season, according to the Associated Press.
Beltran is a good addition to the Yankees and he should be a valuable asset to them.
