The dazzling ball designed with Waterford crystals is one of the highlights of the New Year’s Eve celebration in New York City, but all over the world, cities find innovative ways to make their New Year’s Eve special.

In London, Harry Parr and Sam Bompas are planning a spectacle that is actually edible. Food artists Parr and Bompas told CNN, “We have developed a special confetti that’s actually biodegradable, and in the rain it will magically dissolve.” The confetti is banana flavored.

In Key West, Florida, revelers honor midnight with a drag queen drop, inspired by the movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Appearing from a moving high heeled shoe, female impersonator Gary “Sushi” Marion is lowered from the Bourbon St. Pub.

According to the BBC, Dubai actually attempts a world record for the largest display which includes pyrotechnics. Next to the world’s tallest building, the awe-inspiring fireworks display lights up over 400 parts of the shoreline.
