The day after Christmas saw The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug keep the top spot with a decent haul, while Disney's Frozen has shown continued life over new films.
Desolation managed to earn a strong $10.5 million for Thursday, while Frozen was right behind at $9.1 million, reports Variety. The Hobbit sequel has now passed the $160 million domestically.
After five weeks at the box office Frozen has managed an excellent $220 million collectively.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Desolation of Smaug has now earned over $500 million worldwide.
Coming in at No. 3 was Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which earned $7.4 million and enjoying a boost post-Christmas. The film has made $63.5 million since its release last weekend.
The new Leonardo DiCaprio flick, The Wolf of Wall Street managed a decent $6.6 million and $15.8 million in two days so far. American Hustle was right on its tail with $6.4 million. In fifth place was another new movie, the Ben Stiller-led film The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which grossed $4.8 million and $12.6 million in two days.
Saving Mr. Banks was strong as well with a $4.7 million to place just behind Stiller's film. Keanu Reeves' 47 Ronin and the Justin Bieber documentary Believe were weak, earning $3.7 million and $1 million, respectively. The other new film of the week Grudge Match managed $2.2 million.
